The New Zealand Pacific Business Council, in conjunction with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, hosted an ADB Energy Webinar with keynote speaker and Senior Energy Specialist, Takeshi Shiihara. This webinar held on Wednesday 6th October, was the first of three in our ADB webinar series. It was a great opportunity for attendees to learn more about ADB’s operations in the Pacific region with a focus on specific programmes of interest.
The webinar began with introductions from NZPBC Chairman, Daniel Ludlam and NZTE Trade Commissioner Pacific, David Dewar. Hitachi Power Grids Division Manager and NZPBC Executive Committee Member, Devin Brown facilitated the webinar.
This presentation focused on ADB energy operations in the Pacific region. ADB operations cover 14 Pacific nations, with a wide range of projects occurring in the region which Mr. Shiihara touched on individually. He covered the ADB’s focus areas in the Pacific region; highlighting a strong priority on sustainable energy with renewable energy resources, efficiency and energy access all being amongst the crucial areas that ADB is working towards improving. Within each focus area, Mr. Shiihara presented nation-specific projects currently underway.
He provided a breakdown of the PREIF (Pacific Renewable Energy Investment Facility) which is helping 11 small Pacific nations move towards renewable energy sources. After an analysis of projects and technical assistance in the pipeline (2021-2023), a Q&A session was held to address the queries of our attendees.
We would like to extend a warm thank you to Takeshi Shiihara for a comprehensive presentation of ADB’s energy operations in the Pacific. We would also like to thank Devin Brown, David Dewar and NZTE Australia Pacific Market Manager Scott James for their work in making this event a success. The NZPBC & NZTE will host two more ADB webinars in the coming weeks, (20 October and 3 November).
